Roller Derby benefits!

Hey guys! Here i am again telling you how amazing roller derby is.

I thought i would start with a little fresh meat update.....I have almost nailed a crossover *fist pump* and am still totally loving my time spent on skates with some of the nicest people i've ever met.

I went to a bootcamp with the Rainy City Rollers and got to skate on their beautiful purple floor, they taught me so much and really helped my skating.

Ive been to watch a few bouts now....they make it look so easy! I wish it was!

Yesterday Whiptease, Rogue Beaver, Bexecute, Zedfer  Zulu, Mean Bee, SpartaCursed and I all went to a bootcamp with the North Wales Roller Derby team, and i got to have a go in my first ever scrim. It was AMAZING! I mostly didnt have a clue what was going on and spent a lot of time getting knocked over or sent to the bin but oh my days it was such fun. I took a big hit from an amazing blocker, she knocked me flying and ouch my bum stil hurts but i got back up and even got a complement about my fat controller!

Anyway the aim of this blog is to tell you about a few of the benefits i have found since i started Roller Derby 3-4 months ago.

  • Weight loss....ive lost 6cm from my waist, 9cm from my hips, 12cm from my chest, 12cm from my thighs and 7cm from my arms.
  • Great people...I have met some of the most genuine, kind and supportive people since starting roller derby.
  • Confidence....Roller Derby has helped heaps.
  • Fun....I laugh and smile at every single training session. I never knew exercise could be so much fun.
  • Mental health....all of the above must be good for ones emotional wellbeing!

And now maybe some of the other things a newb should know....

  • Your hair is gonna be shit....sweat, late practices, going to bed with just washed hair...its not good!
  • Derby becomes your life, you breath, eat and sleep derby.
  • Your soial life will revolve around training/watching bouts.
  • Your other half starts to feel like a derby widow!
  • Its difficult and you are gonna fall on your arse.

Love and hip checks....Warzel

Well I've been skating now for a whole 7 weeks and am totally in love with roller derby! Cross overs are driving me slightly bonkers but I'm determined to nail them. After all i am gonna need to master the crossover to ever do my 27 in 5!! This website looks pretty good and will hopefully help. ??? I went with some of the team to see the England girls play and train on Saturday....OH my gosh they are amazing and seriously inspirational. I'm going to another bout this week and a boot camp next month. I will let you know how it goes. Love and wheels, Warzel ??? oh and I'm now less fat and getting fitter!

Fresh meat

Hi guys!

I've been asked to do a little blog about being 'fresh meat' so here I am!

I am in my early 30s, fat and hadn't done any exercise in years, so decided to give derby a go....having not put on a pair of skates in 16 years!

I was welcomed by everyone and they all really looked after me...what a lovely bunch of ladies they all are!

Week 1 i nearly died...well I thought I was going to vomit and pass out but I made it out alive just. Those pyramids are a killer, I could finally walk faster than a tortoise again 4 days later.

Week 2 I could at least talk without the fear of vomiting but I was worked hard.

The nicest thing is how wonderfully supportive everyone is, I've only been twice and already feel like part of the team.

I am now a total derby junkie, I LOVE it! Thanks Stoke City Rollers
